Ask before you sign

  1. Speak to at least 3 franchisees who have run an outlet for 2+ years and see their actual monthly sales and profit — a franchisor making money doesn't mean its franchisees do.
  2. Ask for the agreement term, renewal fee and exit or transfer terms.
  3. Ask whether you get an exclusive territory, and how large it is.

ICRA's rating note of 29 Oct 2025 cut VLCC Limited's long-term rating from BBB+ to BBB (Stable) and its short-term rating from A2 to A3+. It cites the consolidated group's loss after tax of Rs 146.3 crore in FY25 (provisional; Rs 40.6 crore in FY24 and Rs 60.3 crore in FY23), a fall in operating margin to 9.5% from 23.0% in FY23, debt of 7.1 times operating profit and interest cover of 1.0 times, with 47 clinics opened in FY25 still making losses. ICRA noted cost cuts in FY26 but said whether they last remains to be seen. These are group accounts including products and international units; they do not show what a franchised centre earns.

About the Brand

Brand USP

VLCC says it has run beauty, skin and weight-management centres since 1989 and claims 310 locations across 11 countries.

Parent CompanyCarlyle bought a majority stake in Jan 2023 (Reuters via DealStreetAsia); ICRA's Oct 2025 note says Carlyle's stake fell from 62.44% to 51.73% by 31 Mar 2025 after it sold part to Alpha Wave Ventures II, and it remains the controlling investor
HeadquartersGurugram, Haryana (corporate office); registered office New Delhi
VLCC runs slimming, beauty, skin and wellness centres under the VLCC name, and also a beauty training institute and personal-care products. It was founded in 1989 by Vandana Luthra, and the operating company is now VLCC Limited (formerly VLCC Health Care Limited), headquartered in Gurugram. VLCC's home page says it has 310 locations across 11 countries; its About page says 310 locations in 139 cities, while its own centres sitemap lists 200 India centre pages (our count, 25 Oct 2026). Carlyle bought a majority stake in Jan 2023, as reported by Reuters, and held 51.73% at 31 Mar 2025 per ICRA. VLCC's franchise page describes a Wellness Center of 1,800-2,200 sq ft with a Rs 25 lakh franchise fee, equipment of about Rs 35-40 lakh, interiors at Rs 1,500-2,000 per sq ft and Rs 5 lakh miscellaneous, for a total of Rs 90 lakh to 1.2 crore. Royalty is shown as 18% plus an 'FRR' that depends on city potential and is not defined. The enquiry form also offers a VLCC Salon format, but the page shows no separate salon price. An older VLCC franchise site (copyright 2017) described a franchise-owned, franchise-operated model and listed a 15% royalty on monthly turnover with lower investment totals; those older pages are still online but the current franchise page does not repeat them. What to check: VLCC publishes no outlet-level revenue, profit or payback. ICRA's rating note of 29 Oct 2025 shows the consolidated group (which includes products and international units) made a loss after tax of Rs 146.3 crore in FY25 (provisional), after Rs 40.6 crore in FY24 and Rs 60.3 crore in FY23, on operating income of about Rs 952 crore; it cut the rating to BBB (Stable) and put debt at 7.1 times operating profit. The same note counts 217 India wellness centres at 31 Mar 2025, of which 162 were company-owned and 55 franchised. Reports in Aug 2026 say its Managing Director and Group CEO, Vikas Gupta, is moving to Himalaya from 23 Sep 2026. Consumer commissions in Chandigarh and Mumbai ordered VLCC centres to refund customers in cases reported in 2022 and 2023. In 2022 the Bombay High Court dealt with an arbitration application by an infrastructure provider for a Mumbai centre who says she invested about Rs 1.3 crore (the court only decided that Delhi was the seat; the dispute itself was not decided), and in Apr 2026 the Madras High Court largely upheld an arbitral award against VLCC in a 2008 Coimbatore lease dispute. The 200 in the sitemap is lower than the 310 claimed because the claim includes overseas centres. A franchisor's losses or profits do not show what a centre earns, so ask existing franchisees for real centre sales and costs, and for what the 'FRR' and royalty base mean in the contract.

Why invest in VLCC?

- VLCC's franchise page publishes a full pricing table: Rs 25 lakh fee, total Rs 90 lakh to 1.2 crore, royalty 18% plus FRR. - VLCC says it has run centres since 1989 and claims 310 locations across 11 countries (brand claim); our count of its centres sitemap is 200 India centre pages. - ICRA's Oct 2025 note counts 217 India wellness centres at 31 Mar 2025: 162 company-owned and 55 franchised.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the total investment for a VLCC franchise?
VLCC states an investment of ₹90 lakh–₹120 lakh. VLCC's franchise page gives a pricing table for a VLCC Wellness Center of 1,800-2,200 sq ft: franchise fee Rs 25 lakh, equipment about Rs 35-40 lakh (varies with selection), interiors and fixtures Rs 1,500-2,000 per sq ft, miscellaneous Rs 5 lakh, total Rs 90 lakh to 1.2 crore. The page does not say whether GST or working capital are extra. Its enquiry form offers two formats, VLCC Salon and VLCC Clinic, but the same wellness-centre table is shown under the 'VLCC Salon' heading, so a separate salon price is not published. VLCC's older franchise site (page copyright 2017) listed much lower totals; see the older-formats table.
What training does VLCC provide?
VLCC's current franchise page says the owner and team are trained at the centre before it opens, covering customer service, product knowledge, marketing and operations. The length and fee of training are not stated.
