Ask before you sign
- Speak to at least 3 franchisees who have run an outlet for 2+ years and see their actual monthly sales and profit — a franchisor making money doesn't mean its franchisees do.
- Ask for the one-time franchise fee in writing, and whether any part is refundable.
- Ask for the royalty and any marketing-fund fee, and how they're calculated (on sales or profit).

CARE rates the operating company B- with the issuer not cooperating
CARE Ratings' 8 May 2024 release keeps a CARE B-; Stable rating on Rs 5.91 crore of bank facilities in the 'issuer non-cooperating' category because the company did not supply monitoring information or pay surveillance fees. CARE says the rating rests on limited information and users should be cautious. CARE's history in the same release shows B+ (issuer not cooperating) on 23 Dec 2021 and B- from 14 Feb 2023.

Provident-fund recovery proceedings (2020, 2025) and a tax-tribunal order on under-booked franchise fees (2023)
The Madras High Court heard the company's challenges to provident-fund recovery orders in 2020 (instalment plan for about Rs 49.44 lakh of undisputed dues, bank attachment lifted) and 2025 (the section 7A order stands; a review order set aside for want of a hearing). In a separate Income Tax Appellate Tribunal order (16 Feb 2023, AY 2014-15), the tribunal confirmed an addition for franchise fees stated in agreements with 44 franchise entities but not booked (Rs 70.68 lakh over FY2009-10 to FY2013-14), which the company's managing director had offered as undisclosed income after a tax search. These concern the company's dues and accounts, not any franchisee's outlet.
