Ask before you sign
- Speak to at least 3 franchisees who have run an outlet for 2+ years and see their actual monthly sales and profit — a franchisor making money doesn't mean its franchisees do.
- Ask for the royalty and any marketing-fund fee, and how they're calculated (on sales or profit).
- Ask for the agreement term, renewal fee and exit or transfer terms.

Our Estimates

Ongoing royalty
~6% of sales*
BurgerMan publishes no royalty. Chicago Pizza, a comparable Indian QSR franchisor with outlets of similar size, states a 6% monthly royalty on sales in its 2025 franchise deck; BurgerMan's blog says its ongoing costs are lower than international chains but gives no figure. Range allows for a lower or marketing-inclusive rate.

Franchisor's dispute with a terminated franchisee
After terminating a Thoothukudi franchisee in 2024, the franchisor sought court orders to stop it trading at the site. The Madras High Court refused to enforce the post-term non-compete in Feb 2025 and sent the dispute to arbitration; an appeal was withdrawn in Jun 2025.

BurgerMan trademarks registered to a separate, non-compliant company
IP India records show all 11 'BURGERMAN' marks we checked, including restaurant services (Class 43), registered to Mischef Bistro Technologies Pvt Ltd, not to the brand owner or the master franchisee. Tracxn shows that company as not compliant at the registrar. Its filings use a Mylapore address named 'The Cherians' (the founder is Sunil Cherian), but no filing we saw states its link to the brand. Requests to record a new owner were filed in Apr–May 2026 but had not been reflected by Oct 2026.
