Biryani Blues Franchise

Food & BeverageEst. 2013Gurugram, Haryana

Franchise unclear: Biryani Blues runs most of its ~80 biryani outlets itself and publishes no terms. FY25 revenue ₹83.5 Cr, net loss ₹4.9 Cr.

About This Listing

Biryani Blues' FAQ says it welcomes franchise enquiries, but its franchise page shows only an error ('Template not found') and the company publishes no franchise terms. In Mar 2026 co-founder Raymond Andrews told ETRetail that franchising is not a priority: most outlets are company-owned and company-operated, with only a handful of pilot franchise stores run by close partners. Treat any franchise offer as unconfirmed until the company sets out terms in writing.

About the Brand

Brand USP

A biryani-only quick-service chain that, by its own account, cooks Hyderabadi dum biryani in sealed handis, serves the chicken thigh piece in every chicken dum biryani and runs most outlets itself.

HeadquartersGurugram, Haryana
Biryani Blues is a Hyderabadi dum-biryani quick-service chain started in the NCR in 2013 by Aparna and Raymond Andrews and run by Thea Kitchen Pvt Ltd of Gurugram. It sells bowl and handi biryanis, kebabs, thalis and desserts through delivery-led express stores, cloud kitchens and food courts in malls, airports and stations. The brand says it has 80+ outlets in 10+ cities; its own locator lists 82 outlet pages (10 Oct 2026), mostly in Delhi, Gurugram, Noida/Ghaziabad and Bengaluru. Filings show FY25 revenue of ₹83.5 Cr and a net loss of ₹4.9 Cr. It has raised about $15 million, most recently $5 million led by Yugadi Capital in May 2025 at a ₹250 Cr valuation. The franchise offer is unclear. Its FAQ says it welcomes franchise enquiries, but its franchise page shows only an error, and no investment, fee, royalty, area or contract term is published. In Mar 2026 co-founder Raymond Andrews told ETRetail that franchising is not a priority: most outlets are company-owned and company-run, only a handful of pilot franchise stores are operated by close partners, and the company has committed about ₹20 Cr of capex to its own expansion this year. Our estimate for a single delivery-led outlet is ₹30–70 L*, a cost build-up rather than a Biryani Blues figure. What to watch: the company closed its three Mumbai stores in 2023 and shut its Dubai franchise during the pandemic. It is still loss-making at the net level, though it says FY25 was EBITDA-positive, and about 70% of revenue comes through Zomato, Swiggy and Magicpin, per the company. Filings also show 473 late payments to small (MSME) suppliers in Oct 2024–Mar 2025, 105 of them still unpaid after 45 days. Customer feedback is mixed: 3.6/5 from 1,589 ratings on Google Play, and complaints on a consumer site about stale food, a cockroach found in a biryani (Chandigarh, 2023) and wrong orders. A 2019 Delhi food-safety case alleging a synthetic colour in a sample was sent back to the magistrate in 2023. Get written terms and speak to the pilot franchisees before paying anything.

Why invest in Biryani Blues?

- Filings show Thea Kitchen's FY25 revenue at ₹83.5 Cr (₹76 Cr in FY24, per the company) with EBITDA of ₹6.1 Cr. - Its locator lists 82 outlet pages across 8 states (10 Oct 2026), most in Delhi NCR and Bengaluru. - Yugadi Capital led a $5 million round in May 2025 at a ₹250 Cr valuation; Rebel Foods invested $5 million in FY22.
