Ask before you sign

  1. Speak to at least 3 franchisees who have run an outlet for 2+ years and see their actual monthly sales and profit — a franchisor making money doesn't mean its franchisees do.
  2. Ask for the one-time franchise fee in writing, and whether any part is refundable.
  3. Ask for the royalty and any marketing-fund fee, and how they're calculated (on sales or profit).

Atul Bakery doesn't publish these, so here is our best read of the market and how we got there. They are our estimates, not the brand's figures — use them to plan, then confirm the real numbers in writing.

  • Time to recover the investment

    about 1.5–4 years*

A ₹15–20 L bakery shop of 700–2,500 sq ft selling factory-made products typically sells ₹4–8 L a month; at an assumed 8–12% net margin for the franchisee after rent and staff (product margin not published), that is ₹40,000–₹90,000 a month, recovering ₹15–20 L in roughly 17–50 months. Atul Bakery publishes no sales, margin or payback figure.

About the Brand

Brand USP

A Surat bakery brand that says it makes its products in four factories in Gujarat, each with a published FSSAI licence number; its own city list adds up to 191 shops, all but 7 in Gujarat.

HeadquartersSurat, Gujarat
Atul Bakery is a Surat-based bakery brand founded in 2007 by Atul Vekariya and run by Multigrain Food Pvt Ltd. Its shops sell cakes, pastries, breads, khari, cookies, namkeen, sweets and gift packs that it says are made in its own factories in Surat, Rajkot, Sanand and Vadodara. The brand claims 300+ stores in three countries; its own city-by-city list adds up to 191 shops — 185 in India (184 in Gujarat and one in Nani Daman) and 6 in the USA, as of Oct 2026. The franchise page asks for an initial investment of ₹15–20 L and 700–2,500 sq ft of space, and lists training, store set-up help, supply chain, marketing and operating support. It does not publish a franchise fee, royalty or product margin, contract term, territory or expected returns. What to watch: almost every outlet is in Gujarat, so support outside the state is untested; Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh are marked 'upcoming'. The franchisor's revenue dipped 3% in FY25 and net profit nearly halved to ₹1.7 Cr; it made a ₹15 L loss in FY23. Its online store locator shows only 2 shops. In Jul 2025 two Gujarati news sites, Gujarat First and Zee News Gujarati, reported a customer's allegation that a cake bought at the Atul Bakery shop at Nanavati Chowk, Rajkot, was stale and that the replacement he was given was past its expiry date; the shop's operator reportedly told reporters the expired item was handed over by mistake, and Rajkot's municipal health department checked the shop and took food samples. No result of that check was reported, and whether that shop is franchised or company-run is not known. Separately, founder and CMD Atul Vekariya faces a criminal case filed in Surat in Mar 2021 alleging rash and negligent driving that killed a 29-year-old woman; the Gujarat High Court granted him bail in Sep 2021 after six months in custody, and we found no trial outcome. The case is against him personally, not the company. Get the fee, margin structure and agreement in writing before committing, and check real outlet numbers with existing franchisees.
