Ask before you sign

  1. Speak to at least 3 franchisees who have run an outlet for 2+ years and see their actual monthly sales and profit — a franchisor making money doesn't mean its franchisees do.
  2. Ask for the royalty and any marketing-fund fee, and how they're calculated (on sales or profit).
  3. Ask for the agreement term, renewal fee and exit or transfer terms.

About the Brand

Brand USP

Patanjali's own lists name 5,258 owner-run centres in four formats, from ₹2.5 L village kendras to ₹50 L–₹1 Cr Mega Stores, selling only Patanjali-approved products.

Parent CompanyPatanjali Foods Ltd (listed; its Swadeshi Vibhag in Haridwar issues the Jan 2026 store applications and takes 80% of each application fee), promoted by Patanjali Ayurved Ltd (owns the 'Patanjali' trademarks, takes the other 20% of the fee, and is the company that told the Supreme Court in 2024 about its 5,606 franchise stores)
HeadquartersHaridwar, Uttarakhand
Patanjali is the Haridwar Ayurveda and consumer-goods brand led by Swami Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna (managing director of Patanjali Ayurved Ltd, which was set up in 2006). Its own published lists name 5,258 authorised centres run by local owners (Oct 2026): 452 Mega Stores, 1,044 Chikitsalayas (stores with an Ayurvedic vaidya), 2,099 Arogya Kendras and 1,663 village Gramin Arogya Kendras. They sell Patanjali's Ayurvedic medicines, foods and personal-care products. In Jul 2024 Patanjali Ayurved Ltd told the Supreme Court it had instructed 5,606 franchise stores. Patanjali's Jan 2026 application forms, now issued by the Swadeshi Vibhag of listed Patanjali Foods Ltd, set four formats: a Gramin Arogya Kendra (100–200 sq ft, ₹2.5–3 L investment, ₹18,000 application fee), an Arogya Kendra (200–300 sq ft, ₹5–8 L, ₹42,000), a Chikitsalaya (500–700 sq ft, ₹7–12 L, ₹1 L) and a Mega Store (1,000–2,000 sq ft, ₹50 L–₹1 Cr, ₹4 L). The fees, in force since 1 Nov 2024, are non-refundable and split 80:20 between Patanjali Foods and Patanjali Ayurved; up to half comes back as branding material. Centres must be 2.5–3 km from existing ones, may sell only Patanjali-approved products, and must bill their first order within 45 days of paying. What to watch: the forms publish no margin, royalty, contract term, exit or renewal terms, and don't say what the investment covers. Patanjali has a long regulatory record: the Supreme Court closed contempt proceedings over misleading medicine ads in Aug 2024 only after public apologies; Uttarakhand suspended licences for 14 Patanjali and Divya Pharmacy medicines in Apr 2024 and Patanjali told stores to pull them; a Kerala court issued warrants in Jan 2025; FSSAI ordered a chilli-powder batch recalled in 2025 and a Pithoragarh court fined it over substandard ghee (under appeal). Tracxn shows promoter Patanjali Ayurved's FY25 revenue down 37% to ₹5,857 Cr (it gives no reason; CCI approved the sale of that company's home and personal-care business to Patanjali Foods in Oct 2024). Patanjali's own caution notice warns of fake distributorship offers that demand payment. Check real margins and sales with existing centre owners before committing.

Why invest in Patanjali?

- Patanjali's own lists name 5,258 authorised centres across India, including 2,099 Arogya Kendras and 1,044 Chikitsalayas (Oct 2026). - Its Jan 2026 forms publish investment, area and application fee for all four formats, starting at ₹2.5–3 L for a village Gramin Arogya Kendra. - The forms are issued by Patanjali Foods Ltd, an NSE/BSE-listed company with FY26 revenue of ₹40,348 Cr (Tracxn); that is company-wide and says nothing about what a centre earns.

Patanjali states an investment of ₹2.5 lakh–₹100 lakh.
