Ask before you sign

  1. Speak to at least 3 franchisees who have run an outlet for 2+ years and see their actual monthly sales and profit — a franchisor making money doesn't mean its franchisees do.
  2. Ask for the one-time franchise fee in writing, and whether any part is refundable.
  3. Ask for the royalty and any marketing-fund fee, and how they're calculated (on sales or profit).

About the Brand

Brand USP

Gym franchise with three published formats from 2,000 to 7,000 sq ft, Rs 1 crore to Rs 4 crore.

Parent CompanyCult.fit Limited (formerly Curefit Healthcare Pvt Ltd), 100% shareholder per its DRHP
HeadquartersMumbai
Gold's Gym India is the Indian arm of the US gym brand that began in Venice, California in 1965. Its own site says the India business started in Mumbai in 2002. The site's terms name F2 Fun & Fitness (India) Pvt Ltd as the owner of the Indian site. According to the draft red herring prospectus that Cult.fit Limited (formerly Curefit Healthcare) filed on 6 July 2026, Cult.fit bought 60% of F2 under a share purchase agreement of 12 January 2022 (effective 23 February 2022) and the remaining 40% under one of 10 October 2023, so F2 is now a wholly owned subsidiary. F2 holds a master franchise and operations agreement with the US licensor, Gold's Gym Franchising LLC, which lets it open its own gyms and grant sub-franchises in India and five neighbouring countries until 2042; the agreement is non-exclusive and revocable, and requires a minimum number of Gold's Gym centres to stay open in India (200 from 2040). The Gold's Gym India site itself does not mention Cult.fit. The prospectus counts 141 Gold's Gym centres at 31 March 2026. The brand's locator lists 149 gyms (recounted 26 Oct 2026) in 76 towns and cities, with the most in Maharashtra (34), Karnataka (24) and Uttar Pradesh (18); its home page claims 156 gyms in 95 cities and 26 states. The franchise page invites applications and publishes three formats. Regular gyms need 5,000-7,000 sq ft and Rs 2.5-4 crore, Express gyms 3,000-4,000 sq ft and Rs 1.5-2 crore, and Activ gyms 2,000-3,000 sq ft and Rs 1 crore. It lists what each format has (for example a pool and wet areas in Regular; cardio, strength and free-weight zones in all) but does not say what the investment amounts cover. What to watch: the page publishes no franchise fee, royalty or revenue-share, term, territory rule, training detail, or return or payback claim, so none can be compared. The prospectus says sub-franchisees typically pay a one-time non-refundable initial fee plus monthly royalties (fixed or revenue-linked), with sub-franchise terms of up to ten years, but gives no amounts. The page's enquiry form offers investment options starting at Rs 3 crore, which do not match the Activ and Express budgets on the same page. The prospectus also says F2 has asked the Bombay High Court for interim relief against a former franchisee over use of the Gold's Gym marks after termination; the matter is pending and no order had been passed at the time of filing. A 2016 Haryana State Consumer Commission order dismissed a members' appeal over a Gurgaon franchised gym that had stopped working, finding the contract was with the independent franchisee and that Gold's Gym India was not shown to be at fault; a 2026 Ernakulam consumer commission order made a Pune gym operator and its Vyttila franchise jointly refund a member who was denied access after moving cities (that report does not name F2). We did not search every court or consumer-forum register. Ask for the franchise agreement and speak to existing owners before committing.
