Ask before you sign

  1. Speak to at least 3 franchisees who have run an outlet for 2+ years and see their actual monthly sales and profit — a franchisor making money doesn't mean its franchisees do.
  2. Get a written, itemised cost breakdown — the brand hasn't published one.
  3. Ask for the one-time franchise fee in writing, and whether any part is refundable.

Our Estimates

FranchiseChuno estimate

Van Heusen doesn't publish these, so here is our best read of the market and how we got there. They are our estimates, not the brand's figures — use them to plan, then confirm the real numbers in writing.

  • Set-up cost of a 1,000–2,000 sq ft Van Heusen franchise store

    ₹50 L–₹1.2 Cr*

ABLBL publishes about ₹50 L as the starting investment for a 1,000 sq ft store — one figure for all its brands, contents not stated. Van Heusen's 283 company-run stores average about 1,800 sq ft (5,16,667 sq ft, Mar 2026), so we scale ABLBL's figure to 1,000–2,000 sq ft (₹50 L–₹1 Cr) and allow up to ₹20 L more for a rent deposit and opening stock if they are not in ABLBL's figure. Lower if stock is supplied on credit or sale-or-return (not confirmed). Excludes property purchase; GST treatment not stated.

About the Brand

Brand USP

Workwear-led apparel brand sold in India since 1990, part of listed Aditya Birla Lifestyle Brands, which says Van Heusen grows through both company-run and franchise stores.

Parent CompanyAditya Birla Lifestyle Brands Ltd
HeadquartersBengaluru, Karnataka (corporate office); registered office Mumbai
Van Heusen is a workwear-led apparel brand — shirts, trousers, suits and blazers, plus casualwear, eveningwear, denim, womenswear, footwear and accessories — that entered India in 1990. It is one of the lifestyle brands of Aditya Birla Lifestyle Brands Ltd (ABLBL), alongside Louis Philippe, Allen Solly, Peter England and Simon Carter; ABLBL was demerged from Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail and listed on NSE and BSE in Jun 2025. ABLBL's FY26 annual report gives Van Heusen 'a network of over 600 stores' and counts 283 company-owned, company-operated Van Heusen stores covering 5,16,667 sq ft (Mar 2026). Van Heusen Innerwear runs its own separate store format (51 company-run stores). ABLBL says Van Heusen's retail strategy includes 'expansion through both owned and franchise models', and that about 65% of its 3,348 exclusive stores across all brands are franchise-led. ABLBL takes franchise enquiries for all its brands through one page, and the investment it quotes is for all of them, not Van Heusen alone: a store 'starts from' about ₹50 L for 1,000 sq ft, with actual costs depending on size and location. It doesn't say what that covers, and it publishes no fee, margin or commission, term or territory for Van Heusen. Company-run Van Heusen stores average about 1,800 sq ft, so FranchiseChuno estimates ₹50 L–₹1.2 Cr* for a 1,000–2,000 sq ft store. A court judgment shows ABLBL's predecessor appointed a dealer to run a Van Heusen store in Shimla (2015) under a 5-year dealership agreement that either side could end on 3 months' notice, and a 2026 order shows ABLBL itself holding the lease on a franchise-run shop, so the structure can vary by store. What to watch: all financial figures are for ABLBL as a whole (₹8,396 Cr revenue, ₹171 Cr profit, net debt ₹726 Cr in FY26); Van Heusen's own sales and franchisee economics are not disclosed, and the parent's profit says nothing about what a franchise store earns. A Bengaluru civil court (Dec 2020) ruled for ABFRL after it terminated a Van Heusen dealer in Shimla who had claimed over ₹2 Cr in losses; a 2026 Jharkhand High Court order shows ABLBL in disputes with another terminated franchisee and that shop's landlord (the order doesn't say which ABLBL brand the shop sold). In FY25 ABLBL booked a ₹98 Cr impairment — on goodwill, leased-store assets, franchisee rights and stock — while restructuring one business unit (not named). Across the parent's lifestyle brands, store numbers fell from 3,068 (FY24) to 2,903 (FY25) before edging up to 2,945 (FY26). Ask for the current agreement, the stock and margin model and the notice-period terms, and talk to at least three existing Van Heusen franchisees before committing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the total investment for a Van Heusen franchise?
Van Heusen states an investment of ₹50 lakh. Aditya Birla Lifestyle Brands (ABLBL), which owns Van Heusen, says investment in a franchise store 'starts from ₹50 L approx' for a 1,000 sq ft store, and that actual costs vary with store size and location. The figure covers all its brands, not Van Heusen alone, and ABLBL doesn't say what it includes (fit-out, stock, deposit, fee or GST). Company-run Van Heusen stores average about 1,800 sq ft, so a typical store is likely to cost more — see our estimate.
