  1. Speak to at least 3 franchisees who have run an outlet for 2+ years and see their actual monthly sales and profit — a franchisor making money doesn't mean its franchisees do.
  2. Get a written, itemised cost breakdown — the brand hasn't published one.
  3. Ask for the one-time franchise fee in writing, and whether any part is refundable.

Our Estimates

FranchiseChuno estimate

Peter England doesn't publish these, so here is our best read of the market and how we got there. They are our estimates, not the brand's figures — use them to plan, then confirm the real numbers in writing.

  • Set-up cost of a Peter England franchise store

₹50–80 L (excluding the property deposit)*

ABLBL publishes about ₹50 L as the starting investment for a 1,000 sq ft store — one figure for all its brands. Peter England's 223 company-run stores average about 1,600 sq ft (3,56,060 sq ft in total, Mar 2026), so we scale ABLBL's figure to 1,000–1,600 sq ft. If the partner must buy stock rather than hold it on consignment, add more. GST and rent deposit extra.

    Analyst judgement · Oct 2026

  • Partner commission on store sales (paid to the franchisee)

About 17% of net sales or less*

ABLBL publishes no commission. The only figure on record for a Madura brand is 17% of net sales, paid in monthly slabs, under a 2011 Planet Fashion agency agreement described by the NCLAT in Jan 2024. In that case the company argued the slabs were cut under a 2012 arrangement, which the franchisee disputed. Out of the commission the partner pays rent, staff and electricity. Get the real figure in writing.

About the Brand

Brand USP

Aditya Birla Lifestyle Brands' value menswear label; ABLBL says it has over 900 stores and 3,100+ points of sale in 800+ towns, with a strong presence in smaller towns.

Parent CompanyAditya Birla Lifestyle Brands Ltd (Aditya Birla Group)
HeadquartersBengaluru, Karnataka (ABLBL corporate office; registered office Mumbai)
Peter England is the value-to-mid-priced menswear brand of Aditya Birla Lifestyle Brands Ltd (ABLBL), the Aditya Birla Group company that took over the Madura Fashion & Lifestyle business from Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail in May 2025 and listed in June 2025. The brand came to India in 1997 and sells formal, casual and occasion wear. ABLBL's FY2025-26 annual report says Peter England has over 900 stores and 3,100+ points of distribution across 800+ cities and towns, with a strong presence in smaller towns; 223 of those stores are company-run (31 Mar 2026). ABLBL says about 65% of its stores across all brands are franchise-led. A June 2026 company press release gives higher figures — 1,100+ exclusive stores and 3,500+ multi-brand outlets — so the count depends on what is included. ABLBL takes franchise enquiries for all its brands through one page, and the investment it quotes is for all of them, not Peter England alone: a store 'starts from' about ₹50 L for 1,000 sq ft, with actual costs depending on size and location. It doesn't say what that covers. It publishes no franchise fee, commission, term or territory for Peter England. The only partner commission on public record for a sister Madura brand is 17% of net sales under a 2011 Planet Fashion agency agreement; in a 2024 NCLAT case the company argued the slabs had later been cut, which the franchisee disputed. FranchiseChuno estimates ₹50–80 L* for a typical 1,000–1,600 sq ft Peter England store. What to watch: the parent's profit is thin — ₹171 Cr on ₹8,396 Cr revenue in FY26 — and those are group figures that say nothing about a single store. Customer reviews are middling: 3.38/5 on MouthShut from about 2,500 ratings. ABLBL wrote off franchisee rights and stock worth ₹98 Cr in FY25 while restructuring one business unit. In 2024 the company obtained an interim injunction against a Delhi shop putting up Peter England signboards without authorisation next to its franchise store. Ask for the agreement, commission slabs, stock terms and exit clauses in writing, and talk to existing franchisees about real sales.

Why invest in Peter England?

- ABLBL's FY2025-26 annual report says Peter England runs over 900 stores and sells at 3,100+ points of distribution in 800+ cities and towns; 223 stores are company-run. - ABLBL publishes a starting investment of about ₹50 L for a 1,000 sq ft franchise store — one figure for all its brands, not Peter England alone. - The parent is listed and profitable: ₹8,396 Cr revenue and ₹171 Cr profit in FY26 (consolidated, all brands — franchisor figures, not outlet earnings).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the total investment for a Peter England franchise?
Peter England states an investment of ₹50 lakh. Aditya Birla Lifestyle Brands (ABLBL), which owns Peter England, says investment in a franchise store 'starts from ₹50 L approx' for a 1,000 sq ft store, and that actual costs vary with store size and location. The figure covers all its brands, not Peter England alone, and ABLBL does not say what it includes (fit-out, stock, deposit, fee or GST). Larger stores cost more — see our estimate below.
