Our Estimates

FranchiseChuno estimate

Manyavar doesn't publish these, so here is our best read of the market and how we got there. They are our estimates, not the brand's figures — use them to plan, then confirm the real numbers in writing.

  • All-in cost of a Manyavar/Mohey EBO

    ₹65 L–2.5 Cr*

Store size: Vedant's domestic EBOs average about 3,300 sq ft (1.67 mn sq ft ÷ 501, Jun 2026); we assume 2,000–5,000 sq ft for a new store. Fit-out: Vedant's management put franchisee capex at about ₹2,100–2,150 per sq ft in tier 2/3 cities and ₹2,500 in tier 1 (earnings call, 27 Jul 2026), so ₹42 L–1.25 Cr (about ₹70–83 L for an average store); whether GST is included wasn't said. Stock: the franchisee buys and owns it (Vedant's FY26 accounts say legal title and risk pass to the franchisee on delivery), but on credit: Vedant's receivables were ₹651 Cr at 31 Mar 2026, about 166 days of its revenue, secured by customer security deposits of ₹148 Cr plus bank guarantees. That deposit works out to roughly ₹30 L per domestic EBO; we use ₹15–40 L. Rent deposit: none if Vedant leases the premises (it paid rent on about a fifth of stores, Crisil 2022); ₹0–60 L if the franchisee leases, depending on city and size (our assumption). Opening working capital for staff, rent and running costs: ₹10–25 L (our assumption). Total: about ₹65 L (2,000 sq ft, tier 3, Vedant-leased) to ₹2.5 Cr (5,000 sq ft, tier 1, franchisee-leased); an average-size (3,300 sq ft) franchisee-leased store comes to roughly ₹1.25–1.7 Cr. Excludes any franchise fee, which Vedant doesn't disclose.

    Unit-economics model · Sep 2026

  • Sales of an average-size EBO

    ₹25–30 L a month*

Customers bought ₹2,008 Cr of Vedant's brands at retail prices in FY26. Franchisee-owned EBOs made 88% of these sales in H1 FY22; assuming 80–88% now gives ₹1,600–1,770 Cr over about 1.67–1.69 mn sq ft of domestic EBO space, or roughly ₹9,500–10,500 per sq ft a year. For a 3,300 sq ft store that is about ₹25–30 L a month on average, heavily skewed to the wedding seasons. For comparison, Vedant's management said a franchisee needs roughly ₹7,000 (tier 3), ₹8,500 (tier 2) or ₹10,000–10,500 (tier 1) of sales per sq ft a year to earn a good return (Jul 2026).

About the Brand

Brand USP

Vedant says, citing a Crisil report on FY20 data, that Manyavar leads branded Indian wedding and celebration wear; it sells at uniform prices with no discount sales.

Parent CompanyVedant Fashions Ltd (listed on NSE and BSE)
HeadquartersKolkata, West Bengal
Manyavar is a men's Indian wedding and celebration-wear brand owned by Vedant Fashions Ltd, a Kolkata company listed on the stock exchanges since its 2022 IPO. The brand began in 1999 through a predecessor entity, opened its first exclusive brand outlet (EBO) in Bhubaneswar in 2008, and today often shares stores with Vedant's women's label Mohey. Vedant reported FY26 revenue from operations of ₹1,435 Cr and profit of ₹376 Cr; customers bought ₹2,008 Cr of its brands at retail prices. Vedant says the Manyavar brand runs no discounts or end-of-season sales. Vedant describes its store network as asset-light and franchisee-led. Its 2022 prospectus says franchisees fund the store build to Vedant's design and either lease the premises themselves or, in some cases, operate from premises Vedant leases. Franchisees buy their stock from Vedant and own it, but on credit that Vedant secures with security deposits and bank guarantees, and Vedant provides for goods it expects to take back. Vedant's management put franchisee fit-out at about ₹2,100–2,150 per sq ft in tier 2 and 3 cities and about ₹2,500 in tier 1 (Jul 2026). In June 2026 Vedant had 501 domestic EBOs covering 1.67 mn sq ft in 205 cities and towns (about 3,300 sq ft each on average), plus 136 shop-in-shops and 14 international stores, across all its brands. What to watch: Vedant doesn't publish the total investment, any franchise fee, the franchisee margin, the deposit it asks for or the agreement length, so the ₹65 L–2.5 Cr range here is a FranchiseChuno estimate built from its disclosures. Agreements are renewed only by mutual agreement, and Vedant can terminate if a franchisee can't pay for stock. A 2014 franchise agreement seen in court let Vedant pick the arbitrator. Vedant has been closing weaker stores: net EBO space shrank in Q1 FY27, and management says 3–4% of stores typically close each year. Its profit has slipped three years running, from ₹429 Cr in FY23 to ₹376 Cr in FY26, and in Feb 2026 it said Manyavar's mid-premium segment had been hit by weak middle-class demand. Vedant's profits don't show what a store earns, so check outlet numbers with existing franchisees. Vedant has also warned that impostors use the Manyavar, Mohey and Mebaz names to offer fake jobs and collect fees and deposits.

Why invest in Manyavar?

- The franchisor is listed and profitable: Vedant Fashions reported FY26 revenue from operations of ₹1,435 Cr and profit of ₹376 Cr (company figures, not what a store earns) - Franchisee-led EBO model: 501 domestic EBOs across Vedant's brands in 205 cities and towns (June 2026), restocked from a central Kolkata warehouse, with stock supplied on credit - Vedant helps franchisees identify locations, supports store design, manages inventory and supply chain, and trains store staff and franchisees

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the total investment for a Manyavar franchise?
An estimated ₹65 lakh–₹250 lakh. Estimate — Vedant Fashions doesn't publish an investment figure for Manyavar franchises. This FranchiseChuno range covers fit-out at the per-sq-ft cost Vedant's management gave (Jul 2026), a security deposit to Vedant against stock supplied on credit, a rent deposit when the franchisee leases the premises, and opening working capital, for a 2,000–5,000 sq ft store. Stock itself is bought from Vedant on credit, so it isn't paid upfront. The reasoning is shown with the estimate.
What training does Manyavar provide?
Vedant says it runs regular training and capacity-building for franchisee staff, fire-safety training at franchise stores, and an annual Franchisee Meet.
How much does it cost to open a Manyavar store?
Vedant doesn't publish a total. Its management said in Jul 2026 that franchisee fit-out costs about ₹2,100–2,150 per sq ft in tier 2 and 3 cities and about ₹2,500 in tier 1, and its average EBO is about 3,300 sq ft, so fit-out alone is roughly ₹70–83 L for an average store. Add a security deposit to Vedant (stock comes on credit), a rent deposit if you lease the premises and working capital: our estimate is ₹65 L–2.5 Cr, depending on size, city and who holds the lease.
Who pays the rent on a Manyavar store?
It depends on the arrangement. Vedant's 2022 prospectus says most franchisees lease the premises and bear all store costs, but in some cases Vedant signs the lease and pays the rent, and the franchisee's commercial terms are adjusted.
Do Manyavar franchisees buy their stock from Vedant?
Yes. Franchisees buy their stock from Vedant and own it once delivered; Vedant restocks stores automatically from its Kolkata warehouse. Vedant sells on credit and secures what it is owed with security deposits and bank guarantees from franchisees (₹148 Cr of deposits across its customers at 31 Mar 2026). It also provides for goods it expects back (₹114 Cr at 31 Mar 2026), which suggests some stock can be returned, but the deposit amount and return terms aren't published.
Can a Manyavar store run its own discounts?
Vedant says Manyavar sells at uniform prices online and offline and runs no discounts or end-of-season sales, so a franchisee shouldn't plan on clearance sales to move stock.
How long is a Manyavar franchise agreement, and can Vedant end it?
Vedant doesn't publish the term; its prospectus says agreements are renewed on mutually agreed terms. It also says it can terminate if a franchisee can't pay for stock bought from it or becomes insolvent. A 2014 franchise agreement seen by the Calcutta High Court let Vedant appoint the arbitrator in a dispute.
How is Vedant Fashions doing financially?
Vedant is listed, shows no active loans in registrar data, and its bank facilities are rated AA/Stable by CRISIL. FY26 revenue from operations rose 3.5% to ₹1,435 Cr, but profit fell for a third year running, to ₹376 Cr. Its profits don't tell you what an individual store earns.
