  1. Speak to at least 3 franchisees who have run an outlet for 2+ years and see their actual monthly sales and profit — a franchisor making money doesn't mean its franchisees do.
  2. Get a written, itemised cost breakdown — the brand hasn't published one.
  3. Ask for the one-time franchise fee in writing, and whether any part is refundable.

Brainobrain doesn't publish these, so here is our best read of the market and how we got there. They are our estimates, not the brand's figures — use them to plan, then confirm the real numbers in writing.

  • Set-up cost of a two-classroom centre

    ₹5–12 L*

Assumes about 450 sq ft for two 15-seat classrooms in a metro or tier-1 city. Fit-out and furniture at ₹500–1,000 a sq ft (₹2.3–4.5 L); a rent deposit of 3–6 months at ₹40–80 a sq ft a month (₹0.5–2.2 L); an allowance of ₹1–2 L for the franchise fee, abacus kits and training, which Brainobrain does not state; and 3 months of rent, faculty pay and local marketing as working capital (₹1.5–2.5 L). A shared or already-fitted room would lower this; a prime location would raise it.

  • employee_opinion· 2025-05-16★ 1.6/5 · 2 ratings

Employees rate Brainobrain Kids Academy 1.6 out of 5 on AmbitionBox, from 2 reviews

Two reviews from accounts staff in Chennai (Nov 2024: 1.0, saying there was no benefit for employees; May 2025: 4.0). Too small a sample to generalise, and these are employees, not franchisees or parents.

Mar 2018 report: '925 franchise centres in 37 countries'

Diplomacy&Commerce reported a national Brainobrain competition in Belgrade attended by India's ambassador and repeated the programme's claim of 925 centres in 37 countries and over 2,000,000 children, with 17 centres in Serbia. The figures originate with the company. Today its site claims 1,000 franchises in 45 countries and 500,000+ students benefited; the two student figures are not measured the same way.

  • regulatory· FY25

Registrar data: FY25 revenue ₹12.1 Cr (up 4%), profit ₹0.68 Cr (down 48%), 5 registered charges

MCA data via Tracxn show the company active and compliant, paid-up capital ₹50 L, FY25 EBITDA about ₹1.74 Cr and five registered charges with about ₹15 Cr outstanding against them (registered charges are not the same as debt owed). Tracxn lists the last AGM as 27 Sep 2023. This is the franchisor's result, not a centre's.

About the Brand

Brand USP

Abacus plus NLP programme for ages 4–14, run in batches of up to 15, which says it began in 2003.

Global Outlets1,000
HeadquartersChennai (Anna Salai)
Brainobrain is a Chennai-based after-school programme that teaches advanced abacus and neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) to children aged 4 to 14, in batches of up to 15, with a 2-hour weekly class and 15 minutes of daily home practice. The brand says it began in 2003 and now has '1000 successful franchises in 45 countries' and has reached over 500,000 students; it does not publish how many centres are in India, and its site has no centre locator. The franchisor in India is Brainobrain Kids Academy Private Limited, incorporated in 2005. The franchise page asks for one or two classrooms that each seat 15 students and female faculty with a graduate degree and good communication skills, and says the 'vast majority' of partners are women. It says investment details are given on request 'for your location'; it publishes no franchise fee, royalty, agreement term, area, training length or returns. FranchiseChuno's estimate of the set-up cost is ₹5–12 L*, built from classroom fit-out, deposit, an allowance for the fee and materials, and working capital; Brainobrain has not confirmed any of it. What to watch: the company's FY25 filing shows revenue of about ₹12.1 Cr (up 4%) and a profit of about ₹68 lakh (down 48%), with five registered charges and a last annual meeting shown as 27 Sep 2023. Its global claims moved from 925 centres in 37 countries and 2,000,000 children (Mar 2018 event report) to 1,000 franchises in 45 countries and 500,000 students now, and the two student figures (2,000,000 children attending in 2018, 500,000+ students benefited now) are not measured the same way, so they cannot be compared directly. Employees give it 1.6 out of 5 on AmbitionBox, but from only two reviews. We found no franchisee or customer complaints, and no independent franchisee reports either. The franchisor's revenue and profit say nothing about what a centre earns. Ask for the full terms in writing, for the centre count in your city, and for centre-level fee income from existing franchisees.

A profitable franchisor doesn't mean profitable franchisees. These are the company's numbers, not an outlet's. A franchisor can grow on fees and supplies while outlets struggle — talk to existing franchisees and see their accounts before you decide.
