About the Brand

Brand USP

India's long-running greeting-card and gift retailer (since 1979), listed on NSE and BSE, that sells through its own stores, franchisees, distributors and quick-commerce apps.

HeadquartersGurugram, Haryana (registered office at IMT Manesar); head office in Delhi
Archies sells greeting cards, gifts, soft toys, stationery and personalised products through its own stores, franchised stores, distributors, retailers, its website and quick-commerce apps. The company behind it, Archies Ltd, was incorporated in 1990 (the brand dates from 1979) and is listed on the NSE and BSE. Its About page still claims '300+ stores', but its FY26 annual report counts 54 company-owned stores at 31 Mar 2026, after opening 2 and closing 22 during the year, and its store locator lists 47 stores (our count, Oct 2026), 20 of them in Delhi. In Jun 2023 an executive director put company stores at 125–140 and franchise stores near 200. FY26 revenue fell 19.5% to ₹56.1 Cr and the net loss widened to ₹4.3 Cr (₹1.5 Cr in FY25). Archies does not publish a franchise offer: there is no franchise page, investment, fee, royalty, store size or contract term on its site. Its annual report confirms franchisees exist and shows ₹1.55 Cr of security deposits held from franchisees, agents and distributors. In Mar 2026 it announced 'Archies Express', a smaller format with lower capex per store, targeting 20 openings, without saying whether any would be franchised. If a store were offered, FranchiseChuno estimates about ₹15–40 L* for a 300–600 sq ft gift-and-card store; this is not Archies' figure. What to watch: the company is shrinking and loss-making. Its auditor gave a clean opinion but noted it could not say whether inventory (₹65.8 Cr, more than a year's sales) is valued at the lower of cost or realisable value, and that Archies had not deposited employees' provident fund and TDS from Nov 2025 to Mar 2026; statutory dues 'have not been regularly deposited'. Borrowings stood at ₹32.2 Cr at 31 Mar 2026. ICRA cut its rating to B+ (Stable) in June 2026, from BB- in January 2026, citing a sustained fall in sales, weak debt protection and stretched liquidity from high inventory; it put the FY26 operating margin at about 3.1% (10.4% a year earlier) and noted promoter unsecured loans of ₹5.1 Cr. Ownership of the 'Archies' name on the trademark register is not clear-cut. The franchisor's figures say nothing about what a store earns; anyone offered an Archies store should get written terms from Archies Ltd and check real sales with existing store owners.
